Lancashire Police said the stolen car was "deliberately driven" at an officer on Fred Pickering Place

A boy has been arrested after a police officer was "struck by a stolen vehicle in a hit-and-run", a force has said.

Lancashire Police said the VW Polo mobility car, which was taken from Blackburn's New Chapel Street between 26 March and 2 April, was spotted in Fred Pickering Place on Tuesday.

It said as an officer approached it, it was "deliberately driven" at him.

It added that a 16-year-old had been held on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, assault and dangerous driving.

A force representative said the officer had gone "on to the bonnet [of the car] and then on to the ground" but had "thankfully" escaped serious injury.

They said the stolen car then crashed into a Seat Leon before leaving the scene.

They added that officers were "continuing to look for the stolen Volkswagen" and appealed to anyone with information to get in touch.
