A driver has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a six-year-old boy in an alleged hit-and-run incident in Wakefield.

Peter Renshaw, 22, of Grange Drive, Emley, Huddersfield, appeared before Wakefield magistrates in connection with the death of Owen Wightman.

Owen was struck by a car while out playing with a friend near his home in Wakefield on 18 June.

Mr Renshaw will appear before Leeds Crown Court on 6 December.

He is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.
