The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have chosen their candidates for the forthcoming Bradford West by-election.

The by-election, triggered by the resignation of Labour MP Marsha Singh due to ill health, will take place on 29 March.

Jackie Whiteley, a local businesswoman who stood in Rotherham at the 2010 General Election, will stand for the Conservatives.

Bradford city councillor Jeanette Sunderland is the Lib Dem candidate.

Ms Whiteley said it was a "great honour" to be selected and Mrs Sunderland said she was "delighted".

The women will be standing against Respect Party co-founder George Galloway and UKIP's Sonja McNally in the election.

Labour and the Green Party have not yet announced their candidates.
