Heavy snow caused disruption to flights and bus services in West Yorkshire

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning, external across Yorkshire and said "significant snow accumulations" were likely on higher ground.

Flights have been delayed at Leeds Bradford Airport, external and passengers have been urged to check before travelling.

'Awful conditions'

Airport director Tony Hallwood said: "It takes a lot of shifting.

"We've almost got a mile and a half of runway to clear and given the awful snow conditions out there we just want to remind anybody who is travelling to take extra time to get to the airport."

The weather has caused some disruption to bus services, external, particularly in the Kirklees and Calderdale areas.

Police warned of hazardous driving conditions on the M1 in West Yorkshire, while the A6024 in Holmfirth and the A640 Huddersfield Road at Saddleworth Moor are both closed due to snow.

Chris Holehouse, from the Highways Agency, said it was "so far, so good" on the county's motorways and trunk roads, with winter crews out gritting and patrolling.

"Generally, we've been pleased with the way the network has performed and the way drivers have conducted themselves because we do need drivers to drive to the conditions when the weather is poor," he said.

The match is now due to be played in Wakefield on Sunday 24 March at 15:30 GMT.
