Blizzards, heavy rain and strong wind hit the UK

Heavy rain and snow is falling over much of the UK, with up to 40 centimetres of snow predicted for parts of northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Roads in northern parts of Wales, the Midlands into the Pennines, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to be the worst hit on Friday.

Gale-force winds could blow snow and drifts across trans-Pennine routes.

Jenny Hill reports from Huddersfield, overlooking the M62.
