Extra spaces for busy Elland Road park and ride site

A park and ride site in Leeds is set to expand to meet the demands of thousands of commuters using the facility.

Leeds City Council said the 800-space site at Elland Road had been used by 45,000 people since it opened last year.

An additional 400 spaces are set to be created after use of the park "exceeded expectations", officials said.

A 1,000-space site at Temple Green, near Junction 45 of the M1, is also expected to open in 2016.

Councillor Richard Lewis, who is responsible for transport in the city, said: "We are delighted at the success of the first major bus-based park and ride in the city.

"This gives us the confidence to expand the Elland Road site and to progress the Temple Green site in the city's Enterprise Zone.

"As passenger numbers continue to grow, profits from the scheme will be shared equally between the council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the bus operator."
