Joe McCafferty died from injuries suffered in the house fire

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a seven-year-old who died in a house fire 18 years ago.

Joe McCafferty died after petrol was poured through the letterbox of a house on Haywood Avenue in Huddersfield on 3 May, 1997.

A 65-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are in custody.

It follows an appeal marking the anniversary of the blaze made by Joe's mother, Tracey, on Friday.

Joe's aunt, two cousins and older brother were also in the house when it was set alight.

Joe later died in hospital.
