A 15-year-old girl has died after a car crashed into a bus stop in Huddersfield.

Katelyn Dawson was one of three pedestrians seriously injured after being hit by the car on Wakefield Road on Wednesday at 08:15 GMT.

The principal of her school John McNally described her as "a passionate, popular student".

Police said the other two victims, a 17-year-old girl and a 47-year-old woman, remained in hospital.

West Yorkshire Police said both had suffered "serious" injuries.

The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with injuries but was later discharged after treatment, the force said.

Police said Ms Dawson was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary where she later died.

'Beautiful, beautiful Katelyn'

Her parents wrote a message to their daughter pinned to a floral tribute at the crash scene.

It read: "To our beautiful, beautiful Katelyn we love you so much. Your Mum + Dad XXXXXX"

In a statement, Mr McNally of Shelley College in Huddersfield said the whole school was "devastated" by Katelyn's death.

"She loved life and lived it to the full," said Mr McNally.

"She loved to dance and was starting to plan her options for when she left school this year. Her loss, at a time when she had everything to look forward to in life, is sad beyond words."

Tributes have also been paid to Katelyn by her friends who described her as "amazing, kind, funny and beautiful".

In a post on a memorial page on Facebook, external, one friend Jahamal said: "RIP to one of the most amazing, beautiful girls I need. Thank you so much for being there when I needed you. I will miss you so much."

Another friend, Billie said: "My heart is absolutely broken and words can't describe how devastated I am."

A fundraising page has been set up to raise £1,000 towards her funeral costs.
