All four northbound lanes of the M1 near Wakefield have reopened after the collision between two HGVs

The M1 near Wakefield has reopened following a lorry crash which closed all four northbound lanes.

The motorway was shut between junctions 39 and 40 after two HGVs collided at 05:40 BST.

Both vehicles were recovered by 07.40 BST, but the road remained closed for several hours to allow a clean-up operation and treatment for a spillage, National Highways said,

The agency has thanked motorists for their patience.
