A 31-year-old man has died after the e-bike he was riding crashed into a street sign on a cycle lane in Leeds.

The man was on Stanningley Road, near the junction with Henconner Lane, when he lost control of the bike as he travelled towards the city centre.

Police had reported he was riding an e-scooter but later confirmed it was an electrically-assisted pedal cycle.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened at about 9:10 GMT on Monday, is urged to contact police.

The incident is being investigated by officers from West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who saw the rider in the moments before the crash, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.

The eastbound carriageway of Stanningley Road was closed after the incident but later reopened.
