Wakefield: Man arrested after car crashes into pet shop

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a car crashed through the front of a pet shop.

The collision at Feathers & Tails in Westgate, Wakefield, occurred at about 04.30 GMT on Sunday.

West Yorkshire Police said the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to hospital and has since been released. No one else was injured.

The force said a 31-year-old man arrested in connection with the crash has been released on bail.

Following the crash the shop's owners posted on social media to say all of the animals were "safe".

A fundraising page set up to support the shop had raised more than £1,000 as of Monday morning.
