Leeds murder accused in court after woman found dead

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a woman in Leeds.
George Chalmers, 53, was charged with murder after the body of Ruth Baker, 48, was found at a property in Tempest Road on Saturday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Mr Chalmers, of Tempest Road, appeared via video link from HMP Leeds before Judge Andrew Stubbs KC at Leeds Crown Court.
Mr Chalmers did not enter any pleas and will remain in custody until a plea and trial preparation hearing on 3 May.
In a statement, the family of Ms Baker, who was from Carlisle, said: "We are saddened by our loss, however we want to remember her in a positive light."
