A man has appeared in court charged with an attempted murder in Wakefield.

Benjamin Swindells, 29, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody following a brief hearing at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The charge relates to a domestic incident in Barnsley Road, Wakefield on Saturday, which West Yorkshire Police said left a woman in her 20s seriously injured.

The victim was continuing to receive treatment in hospital, the force said.

Mr Swindells is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 13 May.
