Project to improve wetlands at Leicester park

A £65,000 project to improve facilities at a country park in Leicester will provide new ponds to the area.

The grant from the Landfill Communities Fund will improve wetlands at Castle Hill Country Park, which borders Anstey and Beaumont Leys.

The project will include the planting of willow, alder, birch, and black poplar trees.

The project has been developed in consultation with the Friends of Castle Hill Country Park.

Richard Welburn of Leicester City Council parks section said: "The new wetland habitats will help promote greater bio-diversity on the park and are sure to become a popular attraction for visitors."

Work on the project is due to start in the autumn to avoid disturbing wildlife over the summer months and will be completed by spring 2012.
