Two people have been charged over the death of a worker in an explosion at a Leicester kebab shop.

The body of 40-year-old Fiaz Ahmed Ansari was discovered in the rubble of Kams King of the Grill almost 15 hours after the blast early on Monday.

A man and woman, both aged 24, have been charged with manslaughter and are due to appear before Leicester magistrates on Thursday.

Police said they had also arrested a 28-year-old man over the explosion.

Three women and one man who were arrested earlier this week have been released and will face no further action.

Cause investigated

The shop, in Narborough Road, was completely destroyed, but it was initially believed that no-one had been hurt.

Mr Ansari's body was found during site clearance work on Monday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but the results have not yet been released. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated.

Several other properties were damaged in the blast and the area remains sealed off.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who visited the kebab shop on Sunday evening, or had been in contact with Mr Ansari, to come forward.
