A £5.7m plan for improvements at three Leicester primary schools has been approved.
Montrose, Willowbrook and Scraptoft Valley schools were selected for the government grants after a study into areas of highest demand.
All will have mobile classrooms replaced and the scheme will see also extensions built and internal refurbishments.
The city council said it hoped work could begin in the spring.
Assistant City Mayor Vi Dempster, who has responsibility for education, said: "Year on year our schools are coming under more pressure to accommodate the growing numbers of children born in the city.
"These three schools are situated in the some of the highest demand areas that need extra room to take on the increasing numbers of children and ensure there are enough school places."
