Diamond Jubilee: Queen's Leicester timetable revealed

Final preparations are being put in place for the Queen's royal visit to Leicester, marking the beginning of her Diamond Jubilee Tour of the UK.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cambridge, the Queen will arrive in Leicester by train.

The royal party will be taken to several sites around the city and will take part in a private lunch.

Leicester City Council said it had ordered 10,000 Union Jack flags and 10,000 metres of bunting for the visit.

The first stops on the tour are De Montfort University and Magazine Square where the Queen will unveil a commemorative plaque and the party will watch a fashion show put on by students.

At 12:45 GMT, the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and Duchess of Cambridge will be taken to Leicester Cathedral for the first time in her 60-year reign, and will be greeted by the Bishop of Leicester, the Right Reverend Tim Stevens.

After a short service at the cathedral, the royal party will be taken for lunch at St Martin's House where they will be served locally-produced food by teenagers from Leicester College.

At about 15:00 GMT, the party will be driven to the Clock Tower on Gallowtree Gate where the Queen will be officially welcomed to Leicester by the mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby.

The Queen will return to the East Midlands for a visit to Nottingham on 13 June, with the tour due to finish on 25 July in the south east of England.
