Ex-policeman Paul Fyfe murder accused 'licked knife'

One of two men accused of murdering a former police officer "licked the blade of a knife" following the fatal stabbing, a court has heard.

Mohammed Hirsi, 25, and Ameen Jogee, 22, both from Leicester, deny murdering 47-year-old Paul Fyfe on 10 June 2011.

Mr Jogee told police Mr Hirsi laughed "like it was a joke" and "licked the blade of the knife in front of him", Nottingham Crown Court heard.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Fyfe died from a single stab wound.

The court was told Mr Hirsi stabbed Mr Fyfe through the heart after a row at the house of 30-year-old Naomi Reid in Rowlatts Hill, while Mr Jogee watched from the doorstep.

'Ready for fight'

The court heard Mr Jogee, a drug dealer, and his friend Mr Hirsi visited Ms Reid's house at midnight.

Prosecutor Yvonne Coen told the court Mr Jogee and Mr Hirsi appeared angry and aggressive, having being refused entry into a friend's house.

She said the two men were drunk and "ready for a fight".

Mr Jogee grabbed a knife from a block in Ms Reid's kitchen after they took some cocaine and waved it around, threatening to "shank" the friend who had not let them into his house, the court heard.

They left the house but returned shortly afterwards, after Ms Reid sent Mr Jogee a text telling him not to bring Mr Hirsi to her house again, the jury was told.

Father-of-three Mr Fyfe, a former detective constable with Leicestershire Police, regularly stayed at Ms Reid's house after separating from his wife of 28 years in February 2011.

'Egged on'

Mr Fyfe, who was then working as an independent legal adviser, was stabbed after he returned to Ms Reid's house.

Miss Coen alleged Mr Hirsi stabbed Mr Fyfe in the hallway while being egged on by Mr Jogee who was standing on the doorstep.

The jury heard that Mr Jogee told police he did not know Mr Fyfe had been stabbed until they had left the house and he saw the knife.

He asked Mr Hirsi what he had done and he laughed "like it was a joke" and "licked the blade of the knife in front of him", Miss Coen told the court.

The murder weapon has never been recovered, the court heard.

The trial continues.
