Mark Cookson was last seen alive on Sunday 22 March at the junction of Hillcrest Road and Welford Road in Wigston, Leicester.
He was found dead at his flat on Leicester Road, Wigston, on Wednesday 25 March.
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and released on bail.
Leicestershire Police said Mr Cookson spent the Saturday and Sunday morning in Derby with a friend, before arriving back in Leicester between 17:00 GMT and 18:00.
He was seen at the junction of Hillcrest Road, from where he is believed to have taken the most direct route along Welford Road to Leicester Road.
"On this journey he is believed to have been wearing an olive green zip-up hooded top, blue jeans, and may have been unsteady on his feet," said Det Insp Simon Shuttleworth.
Two men, aged 20 and 24, and a woman, 49, have been arrested and bailed.
