Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who went to Sophbeck nightclub on Saturday night

A man has been seriously wounded in a shooting after a fight in Leicester city centre.

The 31-year-old victim was shot in the leg after the incident in King Street early on Sunday, police said.

Witnesses reported "an altercation" between a small group of men which ended with the victim being shot.

Leicestershire Police said a firearm was discovered and officers are appealing for witnesses, particularly any clubbers who were in Sophbeck.

The man was discharged from Leicester Royal Infirmary on Monday.

It emerged that the hospital treated twice as many people as usual between Saturday and Sunday after Leicester City's Premier League title party.
