Coalville bus crash victim was teenage girl

Tributes have been paid on social media to Sian Ellis who died in the accident

A pedestrian killed after being hit by a bus was a teenage girl, it has been confirmed.

The girl, named locally as Sian Ellis, was hit on Meadow Lane in Coalville, Leicestershire, close to several schools, at about 15:30 GMT on Monday.

Police said she was pronounced dead at the scene and flowers have been left near to where the accident happened.

Officers said investigations into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing and witnesses were being interviewed.

Naming the teenager on Facebook, a relative wrote: "As a lot of you are aware, an accident took place outside King Edward at pick up time today, this accident involved my beautiful niece Sian Ellis.

"Unfortunately Sian passed away at the scene and this is something all family members are struggling to deal with at this time.

"Please could I ask that you respect our privacy and let us get our head around this tragedy and we will keep all updated with details once we are at that place."

Many tributes have been posted on social media.

One said: "RIP Sian... safe in the arms of the angels. Deepest sympathy to all your family and friends at this very sad time x."

Another read: "Thinking of you all at this very sad time RIP Sian Ellis, you are now a beautiful angel. God bless you sweetheart."

Leicestershire Police said the bus driver was uninjured.
