A British man arrested on suspicion of murdering a 66-year-old woman in Italy is to face extradition.

The 74-year-old was arrested in Shepshed, Leicestershire, on Wednesday in connection with the death of 66-year-old Michele Faiers.

It was reported Ms Faiers - who was also British - was found with stab wounds at her home in the Abruzzo region of Italy on Wednesday morning.

An extradition hearing will take place on Saturday.

Leicestershire Police said the man, who has not been charged with a criminal offence, would appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

The force said detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) major crime team remained in contact with the Foreign Office, the Crown Prosecution Service and Italian authorities over the case.
