A second man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a double shooting in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said two men were shot as they walked along Evington Road - close to the junction with Chepstow Road - at about 23:20 GMT on Wednesday.

The men remain in hospital in a stable condition, the force added.

A 29-year-old man, from Leicester, was arrested in Birmingham and later bailed. A 24-year-old man, also from Leicester, is now in custody.

The force said detectives had obtained CCTV and from this, it is believed a red MG SUV-type car was involved in the shooting, before the vehicle left the scene.

Det Insp Hazel Sandall said: "After the shots were fired, this car is seen to have left the scene at speed overtaking a number of vehicles on Evington Road and in the Highfields and Belgrave area.

"This is driving that anyone passing through the area, whether on foot or in a vehicle, I am sure would have been aware of at the time.

"Please look closely at these images of the vehicle and if you did see it or have any information about it, please get in touch."

She added the shooting was thought to have been a "targeted incident" against one of both of the injured men.
