A section of the M1 has been closed in both directions due to a "large" lorry fire.

Fire crews were called to the blaze within junction 22 of the motorway, near Coalville, Leicestershire, at about 21:20 BST.

The lorry, on the northbound side, had been carrying "some aerosols and gas cannisters", a fire service spokesperson said.

National Highways said the traffic was being diverted away from the scene.

The northbound carriageway was closed first, with traffic temporary held on the southbound carriageway for "safety reasons" before a full closure was put in place, National Highways said on X.

The fire service said three appliances and a water carrier were in attendance.
