Arrest over tortured Lincolnshire man's murder

Various appeals about Alan Wood's death have been made, including one on Crimewatch

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Lincolnshire man who had been tortured for several days.

A spokesperson from Lincolnshire Police said a man from Hampshire was arrested earlier on Wednesday.

Alan Wood, 50, died at his home in Lound, near Bourne, in October 2009.

His death has been the subject of several appeals, including one on BBC TV's Crimewatch, and a £60,000 reward has been offered.

To date, three men suspected of involvement in the killing have been questioned and then released on bail.

'Throat cut'

Mr Wood was last seen alive at 21 October last year at his local pub the Willoughby Arms, in the nearby village of Little Bytham.

He failed to turn up to work at Sainsbury's supermarket the following day and his body was discovered by a worried colleague two days later.

Police said Mr Wood had been tortured for several days and was found with his throat cut and severe injuries to his head.

His bank card was used in the days before his death and he may have been tortured to get a Pin number for his cards.

Officers have said Mr Wood, who lived alone in a small bungalow in a remote area, had no known enemies and described him as a "gentle, kind and well-liked" man.
