The Bishop of Lincoln has carried out a blessing of Lincolnshire's gritters.

The Right Reverend Dr John Saxbee blessed drivers and vehicles as they prepared to tackle the elements.

He has carried out the annual ceremony since 2003 in a bid to cut road crashes and highlight the important job the drivers do in dangerous conditions.

The bishop had been due to bless the vehicles at the Sturton-on-Stowe depot on 7 December, but this was cancelled so salt runs were not affected.

As the blessing went ahead on Monday, church leaders simultaneously read prayers at Lincolnshire's other depots.
