More job cuts likely at Lincoln construction firm

A Lincolnshire building firm which laid off 24 workers in December has said it anticipates further job losses.

Simons Group, based at Doddington Road in Lincoln, could make up to 50 further job cuts, the BBC understands.

The firm said the number of redundancies would be decided after consultation with staff.

Those who lost their jobs in December worked in "operational roles", while the next round of cuts will focus on administrative departments.

The company has a number of high-profile customers including Tesco, Vodafone and Marks and Spencer.

Those who have already lost their jobs worked at sites around the country as project managers, site managers and quantity surveyors, according to the company.

Simons Group spokesperson Alex Blakelock said: "This is the second, planned stage of a standard consultation process which will affect members of our support teams.

"The process will determine the extent of reductions to our workforce in order to make sure that our financial position remains strong in light of some project delays and challenging market conditions."
