Lincoln Prison to house more Lincolnshire inmates

  • Published

More local offenders are to be housed in Lincoln prison.

Officials at the jail said preparations were under way to operate a community prison model on one of its four residential wings.

Up to 200 prisoners from the Lincolnshire area would be housed there.

It is hoped that closer contact with families will lead to more effective rehabilitation and reduce re-offending rates.

Prisoners will also be given help in getting employment, training and education and accommodation.

Local organisations are working with HMP Lincoln to provide work in the community for inmates and possibly employment on release.

HMP Lincoln opened as a local prison in 1872 holding remand and convicted prisoners.
