Derby County submits plans for new Pride Park plaza

Derby County Football Club has submitted plans to the city council for a £7m development of cafes, bars and shops at Pride Park.

It is a redesign of a £20m plan which was approved in 2007 but then shelved when new owners took over the club.

The new development would include five cafes and restaurants, two convenience stores and 2,000 sq m of office space.

The scheme is designed to complement multi-sports arena plans already being considered by the city council.

Income reinvested

The new plans are substantially different to those submitted four years earlier, which included a hotel.

Derby County's chief executive Tom Glick said: "The income the plaza will generate will be directly reinvested back into the club.

"I do believe the previous board were right to look at such a development, but the reality is that the makeup and needs of Pride Park have changed since 2007, and with the council actively pursuing the development of a multi-sports arena, we have worked to amend these plans to best serve all parties."

The planning process is expected to take three months.
