The new Bishop of Lincoln has been enthroned in a service at Lincoln Cathedral.

More than 2,000 people were invited to a ticket only service to watch the Right Reverend Christopher Lowson be officially welcomed into the role.

He has become the 72nd Bishop of Lincoln and replaces the Right Reverend Dr John Saxbee who retired in January.

The new Bishop said it was an honour and he was looking forward to his new role "immensely".

He added: "This is a momentous step in my ministry and a very important occasion for me."

The Diocese of Lincoln covers Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire and North-East Lincolnshire making it the largest diocese geographically in England.
