Boston garden toasts Queen's Jubilee and 2012 Olympics

The ground was ceremonially broken ready for the installation of the Diamond Jubilee water feature

A newly designed garden is to be planted in a Lincolnshire park to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics.

The garden will be created on the site of an existing Victorian garden, in Boston's Central Park, and will feature a Union Jack and Olympic torch design.

The development will also incorporate a fountain as its centrepiece.

Boston Borough Council said the garden will open in time for celebrations in June.

The authority said the work was part of the Boston In Bloom campaign and hoped it would inspire local people and businesses to plant their own red, white and blue flowers.

Boston in Bloom is part of the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom, which seeks to encourage community involvement and a greener environment.
