A £13,5m agricultural college has been given the go ahead to move to the Lincolnshire Showground.

Bishop Burton College principal Jeanette Dawson said the move would allow the college to expand and she hoped it will stop students from having to leave the county to study.

The lease at the current college site at Riseholme, near Lincoln, was due to run out in 2020.

West Lindsey District Council approved the plan on Wednesday.

Ms Dawson said there were options to purchase more land from site owner Lincolnshire Agricultural Society in the future to "enhance the curriculum" offered at the site.

"Not only is Lincolnshire proud, it's the premier agricultural county in the country," she said.

"It's absolute nonsense not to be able to study here."

The Riseholme site will be phased out while the lease runs down, she added.
