Two former bosses at a Lincolnshire academy federation have been charged in connection with alleged fraud.

It comes after a two-year police investigation into financial affairs at the Priory Federation of Academies.

Former chief executive Richard Gilliland, 63, faces six charges relating to abuse of position contrary to the Fraud Act 2006.

Ex finance director, Stephen Davies, 57, of Doddington Park, Lincoln, faces three similar charges, police said.

Mr Gilliland, formerly of Collingham, Nottinghamshire, led the group until his resignation in 2012.

He has since moved to Moraira, Spain.

Both men have been released on bail and are due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on 11 September.

Police declined to release full details of the charges ahead of the court appearance.

The Priory Federation of Academies is based in Lincoln and has three schools in Lincoln and one in Grantham.
