Work on a £30m transport hub in Lincoln has started, with disruption expected as a number of city centre car parks are set to close.
The scheme includes a bus station, 1,000-space multi-storey car park and footbridge.
The current bus station will close on Sunday, and a temporary one will open in Tentercroft Street.
Thornbridge and Sincil Street car parks will close on Tuesday, with the loss of several hundred places, officials said.
St Mary's Street car park will close over the weekend.
Kate Ellis from City of Lincoln Council said: "There will be disruption, and it will be painful."
She said anyone due to return to work or school in the next few days should check to see which routes were available.
Access to the train station would remain open, she added.
The work is expected to take about 18 months to complete.
