Chapel St Leonards crash: Victims named as Daniel and India Plaice

A father and daughter have died after their car plunged into a dyke.

The vehicle, a Fiat Punto, ended up in the water on Sea Road at Chapel St Leonards in Lincolnshire at 15:22 GMT on Monday.

Daniel Plaice, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 21-year-old daughter India died shortly afterwards in hospital.

Lincolnshire Police said it was not yet clear how the car came to end up in the water.

The force added no other vehicle was involved and no-one else was in the car.

Witness Dean Lambert said he saw people trying to save the pair.

"I came to the end of the road and saw the car overturned on its roof and people on top of the car trying frantically to rescue the people who were trapped inside," he said.

Police have asked anyone who saw the car enter the water, near to the local primary school, or has dash-cam footage to contact them.

The car went into the water shortly before 15:30 GMT on Monday

India Plaice is believed to have worked at the Seascape Cafe at the North Sea Observatory in the seaside town.

In a post on its Facebook page, it paid tribute to the 21-year-old.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts and with great sadness that today we have lost one of our Seascape family," the statement

"We and the team are devastated and will spend the day remembering every piece of the beautiful girl we have lost."
