The City of Lincoln Council has submitted plans for the first phase of a major project to build thousands of new homes in the city

Plans have been submitted to build the first 52 of 3,200 homes as part of a major development project in Lincoln.

The City of Lincoln Council was granted planning consent approval for the overall Western Growth Corridor (WGC) project in January 2022.

It has now submitted plans for the first phase of housing to be built on the site, on land north of Skellingthope Road.

Council officials described it as "a key milestone" in the project.

The proposals include two and three-storey homes, external, with sustainability prioritised, according to the authority.

Subject to approval, and working with partners Lindum Homes, the new-builds would allow for heating via air-source heat pumps, combined with solar panels and EV charging, with additional tree planting and landscaping.

Councillor Naomi Tweddle, portfolio holder for inclusive economic growth, said: "This is a significant milestone for us as a city council within the overall 35-year plan for the Western Growth Corridor.

"The city council is a significant landowner and has been leading on bringing forward development of the area in a viable, sustainable and deliverable way since 2016.

"Western Growth Corridor is a key priority within our overall vision for the city and delivers across all of our priorities and objectives. It is also the single biggest development area within the city boundary," she added.

The project also includes plans for a new shopping centre, primary school and a football stadium.

A new junction is being created between Skellingthorpe Road and Birchwood Avenue as part of the development.
