The cars crashed on the A52 in Lincolnshire on 2 October

Inquests have opened into the deaths of two brothers, aged six and eight, who were killed in a car crash on the Lincolnshire coast.

Louie Ellis and Mason Ellis died after the collision on the A52 between Sandilands and Huttoft on 2 October.

Both boys were rear seat passengers in a Vauxhall Astra that was involved in a crash with an Audi, police said.

Lincoln Coroner's Court heard on Monday that Louie died at the scene of the collision and Mason died in hospital.

The court was told the boys were from Alford in Lincolnshire and a provisional cause of death for Louie, aged eight, was given as abdominal injuries.

The provisional cause of death for six-year-old Mason was given as a neck injury, the inquest heard.

Lincolnshire Police said the driver of the Astra and another passenger in the car were also seriously hurt.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The people in the other vehicle also suffered serious injuries."

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash was under way, police added.

The inquest was adjourned until 3 April 2024.
