Lincoln and North East Lincolnshire residents prepare to vote in local elections

Residents will go to the polls in May, 2024

Residents in Lincoln and North East Lincolnshire will go to the polls in May, with 45 seats across the two local councils up for re-election.

With a general election expected in the second half of 2024, the local vote is being seen as a crucial test for Government.

Voting takes place on 2 May.

Anyone planning to vote in person at a polling station must bring an approved form of photo ID.

City of Lincoln Council

A third of the city council's 33 seats are up for grabs, with one seat available in each of the 11 wards.

The council is currently led by Labour with a total of 20 councillors and also includes nine Conservatives and four Liberal Democrats.

Earlier this year, council leader Ric Metcalfe (Labour) revealed his decision not to seek re-election, opting instead to retire after 42 years.

Five people are also contesting the Lincolnshire police and crime commissioner role, including Conservative candidate Marc Jones, who has held the post since 2016.

In North East Lincolnshire, voters will elect one councillor in each of 12 wards this year

North East Lincolnshire

In North East Lincolnshire, 12 seats are up for grabs, with one seat available in each of 12 out of 15 wards.

There are no elections in Waltham, West Marsh or Wolds this year.

The authority is currently led by the Conservatives, with 27 seats. Labour has nine seats, the Liberal Democrats three, with three Independents.

The Humberside police and crime commissioner election will also be held on the same date, and includes all northern Lincolnshire wards.
