Brentford flood-damaged road repairs begin

At least two families have not been able to return home

Work has begun to rebuild a road in west London where several homes were flooded when a mains pipe burst.

Gallons of water flooded into London Road, Brentford, when a 30in (76cm) pipe broke on Thursday morning.

Up to 60 properties were flooded and some residents were moved into temporary accommodation. At least two families have not yet returned home.

Thames Water said the pipe was fixed on Friday night but work to repair the road was expected to take six days.

London Road remains closed between the junctions of Syon Lane and Busch Corner.

Hotel accommodation

Supplies to properties in Hounslow, Chiswick and Twickenham were affected when the pipe in Syon Lane burst at about 0600 BST on Thursday.

Teams of contractors employed by Thames Water went into the properties the same day to dry them out.

On Friday, the firm said loss adjusters had visited owners of most of the affected properties.

Two families are understood to have been put up in a hotel while most people chose to remain at home.

Hounslow Council also provided temporary accommodation for several people, including elderly people from a care home.
