Man jailed for life for murder of Destiny Lauren

A man who murdered a woman in north London and then stole cash, jewellery and a phone has been jailed for life.

Destiny Lauren, 29, was found strangled in her Leighton Crescent home in Kentish Town last November, Snaresbrook Crown Court was told.

Leon Fyle, 21, of Lewisham, visited the transsexual prostitute "for the purposes of a sexual encounter" but attacked her and stole her possessions.

He must serve at least 21 years before being considered for release.

Ms Lauren, who was born Justin Samuels, died shortly after being taken to hospital on 5 November 2009.

Fyle was found guilty of her attack in August.

Following the killing, Fyle took a bus to Kings Cross and went to a brothel where he paid £250 to have sex with two women, the court heard.

Det Insp Liz Baker, of the Metropolitan Police's Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "The murder of Destiny Lauren was brutal and pre-meditated.

"Fyle has not shown one shred of remorse for this callous act nor for the suffering he has inflicted on Destiny's family and friends.

"I hope his conviction can go some way to ease their pain."
