Bid to find 150 trainee London firefighters

London Fire Brigade has launched a campaign to recruit 150 trainee firefighters.

The firefighters will not be extra staff, but will ensure the brigade retains its current strength.

The organisation said it was particularly keen to recruit more women into the force.

Brian Coleman, leader of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, said the image of firefighting being a job for men was a "cliche".

He said: "All our firefighters must meet the high standards that we set and it's absolutely essential that we have a workforce that reflects the diverse population of London.

"The old stereotype of firefighting being a man's job is a cliche.

"There will be more challenges ahead, but I am determined to deliver an efficient and effective emergency service without compromising public safety."

The recruitment campaign runs from 10 May until 20 May.

Applicants must complete a short quiz to help see if they have what it takes.

Successful applicants will then be given full training.
