Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium consultation ends next week

The deadline for residents' views on proposals for the development of Walthamstow Stadium is next Wednesday.

Residents had voiced opposition to London and Quadrant's plans for 300 new homes and a leisure complex on the site of the old dog racing track.

A bid to buy the stadium for £9m and reinstate greyhound racing by Bob Morton was rejected last year.

London and Quadrant is thought to have paid about £18m for the venue which they bought in 2008.

The last race at the east London venue was held in 2008.

Multi-use stadium

London and Quadrant said businessman and greyhound enthusiast Mr Morton's offer did not meet the stadium's current market value.

On 12 August, Mr Morton, who is backed by the Save Our Stow campaign, which is calling for greyhound racing to return to the track, delivered a pre-planning application for the stadium to Waltham Forest Council.

The plans reflect a multi-use stadium including affordable housing, sports and leisure uses for the community including the return of greyhound racing.
