The West London Free school opens in Hammersmith

One of the first free schools has had its first day of term in west London.

The West London Free School in Hammersmith, set up by parents and teachers, and it will have 120 pupils. One of the founders of the school is the writer Toby Young.

Free schools, a key feature of the government's education policy, are funded by taxpayers but are semi-independent and are outside of local authority control.
