EastEnders stars launch London's digital TV switchover

EastEnders stars were at a real Albert Square in Oval launching London's digital switchover campaign

A campaign to raise awareness of the digital TV switchover in London has been launched by EastEnders stars June Brown and Rudolph Walker.

London's analogue signal will be switched off in April 2012.

The Switchover Help Scheme will offer eligible older and disabled people practical help with the switch to digital TV.

An Albert Square tea party in south London will allow people to learn more about the digital switchover.

Help will be available for those aged 75 or over, disabled people, those who are blind or partially sighted, or living in a care home.

June Brown, who plays Dot Branning, and Rudolph Walker, who plays Patrick Trueman, hosted an event at a real Albert Square in Oval.

Local residents had the chance to meet the EastEnders stars and learn more about the digital switchover help scheme.

June Brown said: "The thought of losing TV channels may concern many older or disabled people but there's no need to worry because help is available. No-one need buy a new TV; almost every set can be converted for digital."

The Switchover Help Scheme will be writing to all eligible older and disabled people in London with the offer of help to make the switch to digital TV.
