Staff on the DLR are concerned about pay and working conditions

The RMT union has announced two 48-hour strikes on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in a dispute over pay and working conditions.

The union said there has been a "total breakdown of industrial relations" between staff and the operator Serco.

The first strike will begin on 29 January. The second will start on 4 February and coincide with the first of two 48-hour strikes on the Underground.

Serco said it was "disappointed" by strike action.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said: "It is solely down to the actions of the Serco DLR management that RMT has had to announce industrial action across Docklands Light Railway to try and force the issues at the heart of this dispute to be both addressed and resolved.

"Our members have now shown the level of anger across the railway in an overwhelming mandate for action."

Two 48-hour strikes on the Tube are planned for 4 and 5 February, and 11 and 12 February over plans to close ticket offices and cut 750 jobs.

Transport for London wants to close all ticket offices and move staff on to platforms instead to save £50m a year.
