Cyclist killed in HGV collision at Elephant and Castle

A cyclist has died in a crash with an HGV in south-east London, the Met Police has said.

The 47-year-old man was involved in the collision at the Elephant and Castle junction with Newington Butts at 16:05 BST.

The cyclist, who suffered serious injuries, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the HGV has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The 49-year-old man is being held in custody at a south London police station.

London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended the incident.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place later.
