Cashless London buses: 'One more journey' feature begins
London buses will not accept cash from 6 July
The first phase of London's buses going cashless has come in to effect with the "one more journey" feature.
The new feature allows passengers to make one more bus trip if their Oyster card has a positive balance but insufficient funds to pay for the journey.
Paying for bus fares with cash will not be allowed on London buses from 6 July.
Transport for London (TfL) said cashless fares would help reduce delays when boarding buses.
When the plan was first announced, Lib Dem London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon said night-time journeys could be more difficult for some groups.
But TfL said it was adding new top-up points on the bus network and its research had showed that nine out of 10 passengers who paid with cash did so either because they had insufficient credit or had left their Oyster card at home.
