A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the bodies of two men were found following a fire at a flat in central London.

The men were discovered on the third floor of Stelfox House in Penton Rise, Islington, on Friday evening.

One man was aged in his 50s and the second man was in his 40s. Police said next of kin have yet to be informed.

The woman is currently in custody at a north London police station pending further inquiries, Scotland Yard said.

More than 20 firefighters attended the scene of the blaze just after 19:00 GMT. A formal identification of the men has yet to be made.

Det Con Insp Glen Lloyd has asked anyone in the area who saw anything unusual early on Friday evening to contact police.

"Two men have died and my team are eager to hear from anyone who was in the area or passing by before or just after this fire started," he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a date for the post-mortem examinations has not yet been set.
