How Prince Philip helped raise awareness of Muscular Dystrophy

The Duke of Edinburgh, who has died aged 99, was patron of hundreds of charities, including Muscular Dystrophy UK.

The organisation said the duke had helped raise awareness of a relatively unknown illness.

It was a cause close to his heart after a friend's son was diagnosed with the condition.
