A man has been killed and a woman in her 80s has been seriously injured in a double stabbing in west London.
The man, believed to be 20, was pronounced dead at the scene at Albany Parade, Brentford, at about 20:00 GMT on Friday, police said.
The 82-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious stab wounds. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
A man, in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He remains in custody.
The Met Police, which has launched an urgent investigation led by homicide detectives from special crime, said there was nothing to suggest the stabbing was linked to terrorism and that it was not currently looking for any other suspects.
It added inquires were continuing to establish whether any of those involved were known to each other.
A spokesman for the force said officers believed they knew the identity of the dead man and formal identification would "be arranged in due course".
A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Saturday.
Cordons have remained in place in Albany Parade, Albany Road and the surrounding area.
Det Ch Insp Brian Howie said: "Any local people who have information or concerns should speak with officers working at these locations.
"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or had any interaction with the suspect near the scene but has yet to speak with police.
"Also, anyone who may have footage, whether from doorbells, dashcams or mobile devices, is also urged to check that material and make contact with police should there by anything relevant to our investigation."
